Born and raised in Haiti, she began her journey as a kindergarten teacher before migrating to Washington, DC, in 2003. Her path led her to serve in the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kansas, from 2008 to 2013, where she found her permanent home in Junction City. With over 20 years of combined experience in customer service, social services, geriatric care, and community organizing, she brings a versatile perspective to her current role as the Executive Director of First Thousand Members Club. As a wife and mother of four, she expresses her creativity through natural hair styling, songwriting, and cooking, while maintaining strong ties to her faith community at the Church of the Nazarene in Junction City, where she serves in various areas and leads small groups.
Having experienced the challenges of being a newcomer in America, she is deeply committed to helping other immigrants, particularly Haitian and French-speaking individuals, navigate their integration journey in Junction City and beyond. Her passion lies in creating memorable cultural experiences and fostering a welcoming community that celebrates diversity. Through her role as Executive Director of First Thousand Members Club and as a domestic missionary for the Homestead House, supporting victims of sex and human trafficking, she works to build bridges between different communities. She actively volunteers with organizations such as Army Community Service, LiveWell Geary County, Junction City Main Street, local schools, and churches, while serving as an active member of the Black Entrepreneurs of the Flint Hills, all in pursuit of empowering immigrants, veterans, youth, and vulnerable populations.
Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Chez Matou Catering and Food Truck, where she shares authentic Haitian cuisine as a guest chef at local establishments and participates as a vendor in community events such as Juneteenth, the International Food Tour of JC Mainstreet, Taste of JC event, Oktoberfest, Flint Hills Festival, and Flint Hills Praisefest. Her business acumen earned her victory in a local business pitch competition in 2021 and acceptance into Walt Disney World's Culinary Internship in 2022. She has furthered her education with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Kansas State University (2016), a Certificate in Small Business Management from Ashworth College (2009), a culinary diploma from Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts (2021), and is currently enhancing her entrepreneurial skills through a business bootcamp with the Black Mastermind of Kansas City.
Together with her husband, Kersaint Hilaire, they pioneered Harmony Fest, Junction City's first multicultural festival, and continue to promote collaboration among visionaries through the First Thousand Members Club. Her blend of Haitian heritage with American entrepreneurship and philanthropy has established her as a valued community leader, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of Junction City's cultural landscape.
